Who are we?
Our Mission
San Angelo Early Childhood Center’s mission is to meet the community’s needs by providing quality, affordable childcare for all families who are working or pursuing an education.
Our History
San Angelo Early Childhood Center, formerly the San Angelo Day Nursery, was created in 1935 by the Works Progress Administration to provide childcare services to families who were unable to afford childcare. The Center first served twenty-five children in two facilities. After the WPA ended in 1943, funding was provided by the City of San Angelo and the Community Chest (United Way) and capacity increased to fifty children. The Center has expanded several times through the efforts of the San Angelo community. In 1991, a group of community leaders raised the funds to provide the beginnings of our current location and built a facility serving seventy-five children. In 2000, the community contributed again and provided funds to expand the Center’s capacity to one hundred fifty children. Today the Center is able to serve more than two hundred children.
